Important Agreements and Mechanisms of International Cooperation
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
It is the world’s first international convention aimed at comprehensively controlling the emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases to address the adverse impacts of global warming on human economy and society. The convention requires all countries to take action to deal with climate change.
The Paris Agreement
Its long-term goal is to limit the global average temperature increase this century to within 2 compared with the pre-industrial period and strive to limit the temperature increase to within 1.5. The agreement also requires each party to formulate its own greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and regularly submit implementation plans and progress reports.
The Montreal Protocol
Adopted in 1987, it aims to protect the ozone layer and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By banning or restricting the use of ozone-depleting substances, the protocol has achieved significant environmental benefits and effectively protected the earth’s ozone layer.
International Mechanisms such as the G20 and APEC
Under these international mechanisms, discussions on environment-related topics like climate dialogue are carried out to promote further consensus among countries and enhance the effectiveness of climate actions.
