Ethical Use of Social Media
Situation: Social media has become a central part of daily life, but its widespread use comes with the responsibility to engage ethically and responsibly. From protecting personal privacy to maintaining respectful communication, online actions can affect both others and users themselves. Work in groups and develop guidelines for positive online behaviour.
Step 1: Work in groups to research the ethical use of social media. Investigate topics such as social media and academic integrity, the spread of misinformation, and ethical guidelines of social media. Look into the role of digital etiquette, privacy concerns, and the importance of respectful online communication.
Step 2: Develop a code of conduct for online communities that includes 5~7 rules for using social media responsibly. Your code should cover key areas like:
a. Maintaining academic integrity while using social media. b. Fact-checking before sharing information or posts. c. Promoting a positive online environment. d. Avoiding the spread of harmful content, such as hate speech or misinformation. e. Acknowledging sources created by original creators.
Step 3: Write a brief report outlining your code of conduct for social media. One group member will present the code to the class, explaining each rule and its importance.
