Role Models in the East and the West
Role models are important in both Eastern and Western cultures, but there are some differences in how they are perceived and chosen. In the West, role models are often individuals who have achieved great success in their careers or personal lives. They may be celebrities, athletes, or business leaders. For example, Steve Jobs is considered a role model because of his innovative contributions to technology. Western role models are usually admired for their individual achievements and the way they have overcome challenges to reach their goals. They inspire others to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence in their own fields. In the East, role models also include successful people, but there is a greater emphasis on moral character and social responsibility. In Chinese culture, role models are often people who have shown great virtues such as kindness, perseverance, and loyalty. A historical figure like Confucius is highly respected as a role model because of his wisdom and moral virtues. In addition, family members can also be role models. Parents, grandparents, and other relatives are often looked up to for their guidance and support. Eastern role models are admired not only for what they have achieved but also for how they behave and the values they represent. Despite these differences, both Eastern and Western role models play a positive role in shaping people’s values and behaviour. They provide examples for others to follow and motivate people to become better versions of themselves.
